The lower part of the facade was in fact designed by the Pisan sculptor Giovanni Pisan\u00b0, who from 1284 to 1296 created, with his workshop, much of its statuary \u2014 the philosophers, patriarchs and prophets, now removed to the cathedral museum and replaced by copies.
